Since 1989 G≡C:C has improved science education for San Mateo County high school students by providing contemporary, high-tech, hands-on science curricula. Initiated by three biology teachers, in partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Education, the program first served those three teachers and 450 students with one lab activity and one “kit” of biotechnology equipment and reagents. G≡C:C has grown steadily since then, and in 2009-10 supported 118 teachers and over 10,000 students, bringing the total number of student participants in twenty years to over 148,600. The curricular offerings have expanded to include extensive menus of biotechnology and high-tech chemistry labs.
